Fallout Gaming (“FG”), a Malaysian-based eSports marketing company, and Purpose Win Entertainment Limited (“PWEL”), a Hong Kong & Malaysia-based eSports company, are proud to announced in Manila today that the Season 2 of Galaxy Battles Major is coming home in South-East Asia!
The first season of Galaxy Battles Major was held in Shenzhen, China. It brought teams and fans of DotA2 from all-over the world to watch the best of DotA2 players compete and be known as the best among the rest.
Today, Fallout Gaming and Purpose Win Entertainment Limited has revealed that Season 2 of GBM will be held in the Philippines this January 2018, the first Major in the world of the year, with a tagline of Emerging Worlds.
Galaxy Battles: Emerging Worlds
With sights set on bringing the tournament home to South-East Asia, both organisers have a vision to reinvent the DotA2 eSports competitive scene via its delivery of the tournament, the tournament itself, and explorations into experiential consumer engagements for the upcoming major event.
Adrian Gaffor, Co-founder & Managing Director of Fallout Gaming, explained that Emerging Worlds has a double meaning in its phrase. First, it is to elevate South-East Asia and bring it on par with the rest of the world’s mature eSports markets; and secondly, to merge the amateur scene with the professional scene in DotA2 history.
Introducing new experiential event components to esports events brings a new dynamic to the overall consumer experience. What we hope to achieve with the fusion of entertainment and esports is a more holistic approach to creating an exciting and fresh way to experience gaming.
Beginning November this year, the regional invitational qualifiers and the open qualifiers will commence throughout six (6) regions: China, South-East Asia, Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), North America, and South America. The total prize pool is a U$1,000,000.00, yes, U$1 million!
In addition, for the first time, the Galaxy Battles Major will have two (2) slots coming from the New Blood Championships. NBC is the first DotA2 amateur tournament in South-East Asia, giving a chance for young and emerging eSports athletes in the region to compete in the International scene.
It does not end there! There will be 8 teams directly invited to join GBM across the six regions, bringing the total number of teams to 18 this January 2018! The first four has been revealed and these are:
- TNC Pro Team
Philippines as Host
The first Major of 2018 is even more major as it will be held in the largest indoor stadium in the world, the Philippines Arena, in Bulacan, Philippines. The Philippines Arena has a 60,000 seating capacity where fans can watch and shout to give their support for their favourite teams.
The Guinness World Records
It was also revealed today that an attempt will be made to get into the Guinness World Records of having the most attended eSports event in the world. The attempt is huge and not an easy goal, all 60,000 seating capacity of the Philippine Area, filled for 3 days of the event. However, with the Philippines being the DotA2 capital of the world, the chance of success is very high!
But wait! There’s more!
The Philippine Arena itself is huge, the largest. But the area around it will also play host to other events. The Galaxy Battles DotA2 World will be the first ever DotA2 themed activities ground. It will have park-like activities, food and beverage zones, resting pods and rest areas, and a sponsorship area where partners are able to feature their products, services, and engagements.
There is also the Galaxy Entertainment Area, located in an open air stadium parallel to the Philippine Arena, where the Galaxy Battles music festival will be held. Local, regional, and International artists will be invited to perform throughout the event, for three full days.
Music is a large part of the gaming and esports lifestyle. Looking at today’s youth we find that in order to develop a great platform that is sustainable, we must include core components that are relatable and relevant to our audience.
The organisers are also working out the details of providing shuttle buses to and from the venue. Giving gamers, fans, and yes, even families, an easy way to join the festivities.
With Government Support
The Philippines Games and Amusement Board, the government agency that monitors and regulates professional sports is also supporting this grand event! They said that eSports is new for them, as such, they will monitor it, work hand-in-hand with the stakeholders, and give enough space for eSports in the Philippines to grow.
Last but definitely not the least, tickets! The Philippine Arena event tickets will start selling this November 2017. It was explained that a ticket per person per day will grant access to all the whole venue, The Galaxy Battles Esports Arena (the competition stadium); The Galaxy Battles DotA2 World (the DotA2 themed area); and The Galaxy Entertainment Arena (the music festival floor). Details of the pricing will be announced in the coming weeks.
Block these dates. File your vacation leaves (but not sick leaves, com’on, your supervisors and managers will be there too), tell your better-half you’ll treat them, and get your family ready, as this major event is around the corner! Galaxy Battles Major Season 2 will be happening beginning on Friday, January 19 and will close on Sunday, January 21 of 2018. Yes, a full three-day event for everyone!
